The Los Cabos Offshore Tournament is stage annually approximately one week before the world famous Black & Blue Marlin Tournament in Baja California’s Sea of Cortez. The tournament provides the 4 man teams 2 full days of fishing for giant billfish and trophy sportfish in the form of Dorado and Tuna in hopes of securing some of the substantial prizes offered by the event organizers. The minimum entry fee of $1,200US per team makes the contest affordable with a maximum investment of $5,600US in order for the teams to be in all the competitive events “across the board” including daily jackpots that cover all the sought after species. The prizes are awarded at a tournament ending gala, staged at one of the resort city’s beachside hotels. The grand prizes which can approach $50,000US are awarded for the single heaviest fish in each category.
More than 50 teams enter each year with total prize funds exceeding $500,000US . The “Little Bisbee”, as the competition is affectionately known, sets off at precisely 8:00 a.m. the first morning with a shotgun start and race to the favorite spots. Two full days of angling follow as the fishermen do their best to capture the award winning fish.
