Fly Fish at
Princess Royal Island, British Columbia, Canada
View Original Description
Princess Royal Island is a wild, mostly uninhabited land mass located among the isolated inlets, passageways and islands of the forgotten coast of Western Canada. The region is extremely remote, reachable only by seaplane or boat, 500 kilometers north of Vancouver, BC and 200 kilometers south of Prince Rupert. The island is within the perimeter of the Great Bear Rainforest and is the home to the legendary white Kermode bear found only on the island and nowhere else in the world.
A luxury fishing lodge anchored in a sheltered harbor along the shore of Princess Royal Island in British Columbia’s Great Bear Rainforest provides access to the lucky Fly Fishermen that make their way to the Island to spend days plying their skills with casting just the right flies to attract trophy fish. The Trout Fly Fishing season runs from the end of March through July. Guided Fly Fishing trips to catch native Rainbow and Cutthroat Trout are the rule during this time frame on connector streams between lakes. These coastal streams are fished by only the relative few fishermen that visit the island each year. The abundant trout make this a perfect place to learn the basics of Fly Fishing. Beginning in mid-July until the lodge closes in September, guided “fly-in” river fishing is the primary pursuit with Pink, Coho and Pacific Salmon the target. Large numbers of good sized fish are the rule for even those just learning the techniques of Fly Fishing.
