Go Heli-Skiing/Boarding in the Alps

Although, the Alps are massive and span France through Switzerland, Northern Italy, Austria and Slovenia, heli skiing is only permitted in Italy and Switzerland. These countries have dedicated landing zones. Gressoney is one of the top spots for heli skiing in the south of Alps and even offers the highest heli ski drop spot in the Alps. Other popular destinations in Switzerland include Engelber, Muerren, and Rosenegg, Typically, a heli skiing day trip may only have a few runs, but those runs can be over 6,500 feet long. The terrain and snow found in the Alps are different than that of heli skiing in spots like Alaska and British Columbia. Since the runs are so long its not surprising that the conditions change. While there is plenty of powder it may not be the only type of snow encountered on a single run, so the type of skiing required is more technical. For those who want to go heli skiing/boarding in the Alps signing up with a group adventure could be a more interesting experience. On a group trip a skier may go cross country lines, ski through picturesque alpine villages, and even visits spots that can only be reached on skis. The best time to plan a heli skiing/boarding trip in the Alps is February through April, but options are available beginning in January.
