Chambers Bay Golf Course, University Place, Washington
View Original Description
Just outside Tacoma and 80 kilometers south of Seattle, Washington along the shores of Puget Sound is found Chambers Bay Golf Course. The course was designed by world-class golf course architect Robert Trent Jones, Jr. on the site of an abandoned gravel mine in a form that emulates the great links courses of Scotland and Ireland requiring a good imagination and shot making ability to successfully navigate. Although the course has only been open since 2007 it has already been recognized for its exemplary qualities by its designation as the site for the 2015 US Open Championship, the first golf course in the United States’ Pacific Northwest to be so awarded. The 2010 US Amateur was also staged at Chambers Bay. The visual treats that await golfers such as windswept dunes, abundant wildlife and a remarkable coastal setting rival the native fescue grasses and pristine course conditions for the highlights in the memories of those that have visited. 5 sets of tee boxes make the course playable for virtually every skill level. The course is open for public play and has a vibrant caddie program in addition to offering lessons, practice facilities, restaurant, club rentals and locker rooms. The course is designated as a “walking only” facility with motorized carts available only for those with a physical impairment.
