Makai Course at Princeville, Kauai, Hawaii
View Original Description
The 2 world class golf courses located at Princeville on the north shore of the Hawaiian Island of Kauai near the town of Hanalei are located on land that was formerly a plantation. The region was once visited by the son of the then reigning King and Queen of Hawaii, Prince Albert Kamehameha, giving rise to the Princeville label. The Princeville area has developed into a luxury destination resort and upscale residential neighborhood. Visitors to Princeville will find the golf courses that are woven into the fabric of the resort to be worthy of the Princeville name.
The Makai Course redesign was awarded the Golf Inc. designation for Top Renovation for the year 2011. Originally opened in 1971 this Robert Trent Jones, Jr. design underwent extensive renewal where 3 different nine hole courses were combined into one world class 18 hole routing and a 9 hole course set aside for the golfer that just wants to relax and enjoy a quick, fun round. The championship course is included on Travel and Leisure’s as well as Golf Digest’s list of Top 100 Golf Resort Courses. The nine-hole Woods Course is ideal for the casual golfer who wants to enjoy a shorter, leisurely round on a relaxed layout. The nine hole “Woods” course winds through native woodlands and is set against a backdrop with majestic mountain views. The test that is the Makai course can reach to more than 7,200 yards on what is arguably some of the most picturesque real estate on earth on Kauai’s north shore.
