Royal Melbourne Golf Club is the oldest continuously operated golf club in Australia. The club has existed since 1891 having been formed by a group of locals, many with Scottish ancestry. Royal Melbourne Golf Club had previously been located at 2 different sites in Melbourne, Victoria before the current West Course was designed by Dr. Alistair MacKenzie, A Scot, whose designs have grown to be revered throughout the golfing world (including the famous Augusta National Golf Club where the Masters is contested counted among his accomplishments). Dr. MacKenzie’s layout was accepted by the membership in 1926. A few years later, the East Course was commissioned.
