Hike
Airport Loop Trail, Catalina, California
View Original Description
Airport Loop Trail, which reveals its main location in its name is a nice easy 2.3 mile loop trail around the airport. The trail offers sweeping views of both Black Jack Mountain and Mount Orizaba. The trail passes the location of the Native American soapstone quarry. It begins at the airport terminal.
Buffalo Springs Reservoir is a small pond west of the airport runway along the Airport Loop Trail. Bison frequent the pond as a watering hole.
This is a great way for people who visit the airport using the Wildlands Express Service ((310) 510-0143 for reservations) to see the island.
Note: You need a hiking permit before you start out. You can obtain one online (http://www.catalinaconservancy.org/) or at the Conservancy Explore store in Avalon, Wrigley Memorial & Botanic Garden, Nature Center at Avalon Canyon, Airport in the Sky, and Two Harbor Enterprises.
