Grábrók & Grábrókarfell, Bifröst, Iceland
View Original Description
Bifröst is a small settlement in western Iceland, in the Mýrasýsla county. Bifröst has a convenience store called Samkaup strax, a coffee house, a kindergarten and a gym among other things.
Bifröst is surrounded by a 3,000-year-old lava field, Grábrókarhraun, which has been overgrown with moss and heather. Just behind the university campus there is an old volcano called Grábrók and another mountain called Grábrókarfell.
The Grábrók crater was formed in a fissure eruption approximately 3400 years ago. The sight from here is absolutely stunning. Grábrókarfell is a smaller crater covered with moss and birch bushes.
