San Dieguito Coast to Crest Trail, San Diego, California
View Original Description
The Coast to Crest Trail starts in Del Mar, California, and when finished the trail will stretch 70 miles east through wetlands, chaparral, open meadows and dense forests to 5,850-foot Volcan Mountain, the source for the San Dieguito River. The Trail is only made up of segments at this point and is currently 45 miles in distance.
San Dieguito River Segment (2.7 miles one way from bridge - not beach): The trail starts in Del Mar just west of the Del Mar Race Track at the Jimmy Durente Bridge (or start at Del Mar Beach and hike trail to the Jimmy Durante Bridge). It runs along the new restored San Diegito Lagons to the horse park on El Camino Real (where it stops for now).
The next segment of the trail start in eastern Rancho Santa Fe just west of the Crosby Estates and goes through Del Dios Gorge to trails that skirt the north shore of Lake Hodges. It then goes under I-15 freeway and connects up with the Mule Hill / San Pasqual Trails, where it stops about 2 miles east of the Wild Animal Park.
The last segment of the trail starts again in Santa Ysabel and makes its way up to Volcan Mountain.
