Crater Rim Trail, Hawaii Volcanoes National Park
View Original Description
The Crater Rim Trail in Hawaii Volcanoes National Park is a all day 11-mile (17.7km) trail the circles Kilauea's summit caldera. Hikers will marvel at native plant and animal life, active volcanism, diverse scenic vistas, desert terrain, and lush rain forest. There are several places to begin this loop trail, but the most common place is the Visitor's Center.
NOTE: A large portion of this trail (from Jaggar Museum south to the junction with Chain of Craters Road) is closed due to the current eruption in Halema`uma`u Crater.
Bring water and food. Be prepared for hot and dry, and wet and windy weather. Scorching sun, biting winds and pelting rain can occur in the same hour.
