Hike
Elephant Canyon/Druid Arch (Chesler Park), Canyonlands National Park, Utah
View Original Description
The Elephant Canyon/Druid Arch trail in the Needles District of Canyonlands National Park offers one of the most spectacular views in the Needles. It follows the Chesler Park access trail to Elephant Canyon, then travels along the canyon bottom across a mixture of deep sand and loose rock all the way to its upper end. The Chesler Trail forks right and climbs out of the canyon while the Elephant Trail continues up the canyon to its head. The last .25 mile is a steep climb involving one ladder and some scrambling.
Druid Arch is located near the top of Elephant Canyon. The final quarter mile is a steep climb involving one ladder and some scrambling.
There are three backpacking sites and water is available seasonally. The trailhead is located at Elephant Hill, at the end of the improved access road in The Needles District of Canyonlands national Park. The last 2.7 miles of the road is gravel, but is passable to passenger cars in dry conditions.
