Hike Fortification Hill, Arizona

An extinct-volcano-gone-mesa, Fortification Hill is a 3,719-foot prominence that overlooks Lake Mead and the Hoover Dam. The trailhead is close to Willow Beach and is rated as difficult. Though most of the hike is fairly straightforward, there is a stretch where the trail becomes unstable. The trail is most popular in the Springtime when the flowers bloom on the mesa. Distance: 3.7-mile loop How to Get There: To access the trailhead, take Hwy 93 east from Hoover Dam Bridge to Kingman Wash Access Road and head north for 3.2 miles (5.2 km). Then turn right onto Fortification Hill Rd and drive 2.5 miles (4.1 km) to the trailhead. TIPS: Dog-friendly Trail recommended September through May Fee required to enter Lake Mead National Recreation Area
