Hike Gold Strike Hot Springs Trail (Nevada Hot Spring), Nevada

Nevada Hot Springs is a popular visitor destination that can be accessed by boat on the Nevada side of Hoover Dam, or by hiking down Goldstrike Canyon. This spring (actually a series of springs) produces a number of picturesque pools of varying temperatures, as well as lovely waterfalls that provide a welcome sight to intrepid hikers. The hot springs range in temperature from 70 to 144 degrees. It is possible to access the springs by canoe/kayak, but most visitors prefer to make the hike to the pools from U.S. Highway 93, which takes about two and a half hours. Features to look for along the way include a waterfall, numerous caves, crystalline stalactites and stalagmites, narrow passages, and 100-foot-high canyon walls. Scrambling across boulders is required to reach the hot spring pools, which are terraced into the landscape for about 100 yards. Many of the pools are deep enough for bathing and even swimming. They have a slightly blue-green tint due to the algae that grows in the very hottest water. Distance: 4.5 miles out and back How to Get There: Leaving Henderson, Nevada, on Highway 515 going south, take Highway 93 east past the Hoover Dam Lodge. Exit at Gold Strike Canyon Road. Take a right at the bottom of the exit and an immediate left on Gold Strike Canyon Road. The trailhead will be at the end of the road. TIPS: Closed June-September due to heat There are eight fixed ropes to help you scramble to the springs.
