Herman's Hike Loop Trail in Thousand Palms Oasis Preserve is a loop hike that takes hikers to three oasis, two viewpoints and shows off the area’s scenery to the north, south, east and west. The hike is 7.26 miles (11.68 km) with 928 feet elevaytion gain and is rating difficult. Usually takes 3-4 hours.
Start the hike at the Visitor’s Center and do the loop clockwise (little easier) and counter clockwise. The loop uses a few of the trail in the preserver including:
Willis Palm Loop: It's about 2 miles from parking lot to Willis Palms trailhead and about 1/2 mile to Willis Palms oasis.
Herman's Hike Trail: Herman's Hike Trail starts when the Willis Palms Loop starts to turn around. It continues to climb up the hill. The last part of the trail climbs down 600+ feet in the next mile. Views of Moon Country canyons to the northwest and even the Visitor’s Center to the west.
Moon Country Trail: There is a side trail to a nice view point along the Moon Country portion of the trail.
McCallum Trail: McCallum Grove is one of the stop along the trail. There is typically a good sized pond here (look for crayfish and frogs in the water).
