Hike Kaupō Gap Trail, Maui, Hawaii
The Kaupo Gap Trail poorly maintained trail that connects Haleakalā Crater with Kaupo town on Maui's coast.
The trail from Kaupo to Palikū Cabin is 8.6 miles and has an elevation gain of over 7,000 feet. It's aanother 9.3 miles (15km) along Keoneheʻeheʻe (Sliding Sands) Trail to the crater rim.
The lower half of the trail is on private land. Permission to pass is extended as a curtesy to hikers.
This is a tough hike espically if going up hill. Bring PLENTY of water!
