Hike Macushla to Cape Richards Track, Hinchinbrook Island, Queensland, Australia
Along the northern coast of Hinchinbrook Island in Queensland, Australia is the 7 km one way hike (3.5 hours) from Macushla Camping Area to Cape Richards. Once you cross the island you will arrive at the 2 km long North Shepherd Beach, which offers shade and relatively safe swimming (just beware the crocodiles).
The trail is done one-way and requires boat transport required at both ends. Is not available to Thorsborne Trail walkers.
Be aware that crocodiles can turn up anywhere in croc country, including tidal reaches of rivers, along beaches, on offshore islands and cays in the Great Barrier Reef and Torres Strait, and in freshwater lagoons, rivers, and swamps. Crocodiles are dangerous and attacks can be fatal.
