Hike Murray Canyon, Palm Springs, California

Murray Canyon near Palm Springs goes along a running stream having some rock crossings and cool tree canopy. Murray Canyon is an easy to moderate hike south from Andreas Canyon. Foot and equestrian trails take visitors to beautiful recreation areas featuring many palm trees. Fortunate visitors may catch a glimpse of a Peninsular Big Horn Sheep (an endangered species), mule deer or other wild animals still roaming the high ground above the canyon. Less visited, Murray Canyon has its own secluded beauty. The endangered Least Bells Vireo bird is also known to nest here. This 6 mile hike is in-and-out with 500 ft. elevation gainand takes about 4 hours. Trailhead in the Indian Canyons located on S. Palm Canyon Dr.. The trail is part of Indian Canyons park. There is an admission charge. Starting Oct. 1, the Canyons are open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. Beginning July 7, Tahquitz Canyon and the Indian Canyons will only be open to the public 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays through Sept. 30.
