Hike or Ride to Gopher Mine, Julian, California
The Gopher Mine are over 100 years old and have multiple levels. Hike down The Old Banner Road Trail, also known as The Wilcox Toll Road. A little over a mile down the road and The Gopher Mine comes into view.
The original road was built by Horace Wilcox, who would charge a toll for its use. Later it was purchased by San Diego County and after 1925 The name was changed to The Old Banner Road.
Not all the "abandoned" homes nearby are abandoned. People DO live in those homes despite their state so if you head out here, please come with respect.
