Hike Pacific Crest Trail (PCT) - Mexico Border to Lake Morena, Claifornia

The start of the PCT trail heading north from the Border Monument to Lake Morena is an extremely strenuous hike. This all-day endeavor offers minimal shade with weather that is often harsh (high heat). However, if looking for an adventure, this hike offers great exercise and viewpoints with inclines of 2814 feet and elevation loss of 2701, taking travelers weaving up and down mountain terrain. The trail starts with about 12 miles of rolling hills until you drop down into Hauser Canyon. From the bottom of Hauser Canyon to Lake Morena is about 5 miles. The climb out of Hauser Canyon is cited by many hikers as one of the hardest sections of the PCT because it is typically the first day. It is common not make the 20 miles in one day, be prepared with a tent as Hauser Canyon is a popular backcountry camping spot. Do not attempt to hike out of Hauser between 2-4pm as these are the hottest hours of the day and there is no shade. This point to point hike can be very dangerous, expect it to take between 8 and 18 hours one way.
