Pedra da Gávea (Gavea Rock), Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
View Original Description
Pedra da Gávea is one of the mountain landmarks in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The Pedra da Gavea is the world’s largest monolith. The hike to the top is very challenging and takes around seven hours roundtrip, which includes over 2,700 feet (~842 meters) elevation gain. At the top are some of the best views the city. Many feel this is the best hike in Rio, but it requires significantly effort, so others end up being on the top.
About an hour from the top there is the infamous “Carrasqueira” section where you need to scale a 30 meters (100 feet) high wall of rock, so be aware - would hate to get this far up and not want to finish it.
