Hike
Redwood Creek Trail, Redwood National and State Parks, California
View Original Description
Redwood Creek Trail is the second most-visited trail in Redwood National Park, after the Lady Bird Johnson Trail. There are not many redwoods grow along the trail, but the 8 mile (one-way) hike leads to Tall Trees Grove, home of the Libbey Tree (363 feet high) and other giants.
The most scenic part of the trail is the first 1.5 miles up to the first creek crossing. The full length of the trail is a lot for one day. If you want to hike the entire trail to Tall Trees Grove, plan on camping overnight on Redwood Creek, and return the next day.
The trail is the only area in the park where "dispersed camping" is permitted - no campgrounds exists.. Backpackers can pitch a tent anywhere they like along the 6 miles of the creekbed upstream of the first creek crossing and at least a 1/4 mile downstream of the Tall Trees Grove.
