Rider Canyon feeds into Marble Canyon on the Colorado River in Arizona. It's scenic canyon with narrows and potholes and has some steep scrambling to get in and out of the canyon. The hike is 5.5 miles rountrip and take 4-5 hours.
Ropes are not required for the hike but there are some semi-technical climbs and scrambles to make it to the river.
To get there drive 89A and turn south on a dirt road just after mile marker 557. This is a BLM road that has a gate (make sure to close the gate). Dead south on this dirt road and at mile 0.75 bear right. At mile 2.1 bear left at a road junction and cattle guard. Bear left again at 3.3 miles and att 4.6 miles you will pass an old ranch, at which your will tirn right. Take the left fork at mile 5.6. Once you get to 11.9 miles, bear left. At 12.2 miles, bear right. Once you get close to 14.2 miles, begin looking to your left when you see Rider Canyon.
WARNING: During inclement weather it is not advisable to enter the wash due to the possibility of flash flooding. Remember that desert canyons can draw water from hundreds of surrounding miles, so clear weather here does not necessarily negate the possibility of flooding.
