Hike Ropes Canyon Trail, Mecca Hills, California
The Ropes Canyon Trail is a semi-technical slot canyon with rope obstacles in Mecca Hills area. Basic climbing skills are required. The ropes are very challenging - some will find it easier going up them, others down them. The ropes do require body strength for climbing.
The trailhead is the same for the Painted Canyons (Ladder Canyons). The view and feeling here is totally different from ladder canyon. The color of valley is more gray. The canyon is narrower at some places compared to ladder canyon.
The ropes are about 1/2 mile into the hike and there are 4 total before the 20 foot ropw. It's a little narrow getting through the canyon but it opens up after the ropes.
Bring lots of water as there is minimal shade on about half of the hike. Go early or on weekdays to avoid the people that have trouble climbing with ropes.
