Canyoneer Soap Creek, Grand Canyon National Park, Arizona

Soap Creek Trail is a 5 mile roundtrip hike located in Vermilion Cliffs National Monument near Lee's Ferry in Arizona. It's a primitive trail that follows Soap Creek Canyon to the Colorado River in Marble Canyon and Soap Creek Rapids. It is a difficult but popular hike among day hikers and fisherman due to the natural scenery and access to the Colorado River. Ropes will be needed to ascend boulder jams created by flooding. All ropes must be removed after individual use. The trailhead is located off Highway 89A, about eight miles west of Marble Canyon. The best season of use is during the spring and fall. There are no fees or permits required. There are two great camping sites at the end of Soap Creek Canyon near the Colorado River, but you will need a Grand Canyon permit to do this. The trailhead is located off 89A. Once you get to mile marker 548, look for a small gate (that you can open) on the east side of the road. Go on this and drive past a few small abandoned structures to the Soap Creek Canyon "Trailhead". WARNING: During inclement weather it is not advisable to enter the wash due to the possibility of flash flooding. Remember that desert canyons can draw water from hundreds of surrounding miles, so clear weather here does not necessarily negate the possibility of flooding.
