Hike Spencer Trail, Arizona

Spencer Trail is a 2 mile route that begins near Lee's Ferry Fort and climbs to a plateau above the steep cliffs (about 1560' (~475m) elevation gain). There are spectacular views of the area from the plateau edge. A short but strenuous hike with amazing views of the Colorado River and the City of Page, this rocky climb up switchbacks ascends out of the canyon surrounding Lees Ferry. The trail is not maintained and can be difficult to follow. Avoid hiking during the hottest part of the day. Best times include Spring and Fall. Do not hike it in the dark. Lees Ferry is 42 miles (61 km) from Page via Hwy 89 south and Hwy 89A west. It is 85 miles (125 km) from the North Rim of the Grand Canyon via Hwy 89A and Hwy 67. The Lees Ferry Junction and Park Entrance is just west of Navajo Bridge Interpretive Center. A paved road leads 5 miles (8 km) to the Ferry area. A gravel parking lot at the end of the paved area will give you access to the start of the historic district. Divert from River Trail roughly .36 miles (.58 km) at posted junction. No overnight parking. Services available at Lees Ferry include a National Park Service campground, dump station and public launch ramp. There is a gas station, store, and post office at Marble Canyon, next to the park entrance. More services are found west on Hwy 89A.
