Hike to Black Butte Mine, Joshua Tree National Park, California
Black Butte Mine is located about 1 km southwest off Big Horn Pass Rd in Joshua Tree National Park - east of the main parking area for the Barker Dam Nature Trail. The mine dates back to the 1890's. Bill Thornton and U.C. Wirtz owned a claim called the Gold Tiger Mine in this area prior to 1911-12, which may be the same mine.
Not much is left beside some covered shafts and random cans.
There is not a real trail to the mine. Follow the washes and then climb the hill.
