Hike & Rock Climb
Wonderland Ranch Wash (Garrett's Arch, Red Obelisk, Walrus, Freak Brothers Domes & Disneyland Dome), Joshua Tree National Park, California
View Original Description
Garrett's Arch is located a ways back in the Wonderland of Rocks. Start at the Wall Street Mill trailhead. Take the left branch at the first fork in the trail to the remains of Wonderland Ranch. The entrance to the main wash we would be following is almost directly west of the Ranch ruins. Soon afterwards there are some small caves with a fading pictograph is on one rock wall and bedrock mortar. Continue north on the wash. Some of the rock formations in the wash:
Walrus is on the right side, which is also known as the Creature when viewed from the opposite direction.
Punk Rock
Foolproof Tower (5.4-5.11b) on the left side of the canyon. It’s a tall chunk of rock with an interesting overhanging lip and makes a great landmark, especially when we hiked deeper into the “Wanderland.”
Some other rock climbing spots include:
The Weenie (5.11a & 5.11c)
Fat Freddie’s Cat (5.6-5.11b)
Peabrain (boulder - 15ft)
Disneyland Dome (5.9-5.12a), and
Red Obelisk (5.10b & 5.11d)
Freak Brothers Domes (5.8-5.10b)
