Hike to
Roque de Anambro, Tenerife Island, Canary Islands
View Original Description
Roque de Anambro (845m/2 772ft a.s.l.) is a volcanic dome located in the Anaga massif. There's a hiking trail (T2) leading to the summit.
According to a modern legend, it was from this rock that Beneharo , Mencey de Anaga, jumped into the void after fleeing from the conquerors . Legend has it that he climbed to the top of Roque Anambro and before jumping, Beneharo questioned whether it was better to give up or jump . He decided to die in freedom and after shouting ¡Guañoth Achamán ! (" Help me my God! "), he threw himself into the void. It is said that he fell on a holly tree , impregnating it with blood. They say that this is why the hollyhock has red fruits, due to the blood spilled by Beneharo.
