Night Hike to Stromboli Craters, Stromboli Island, Italy

Hiking to the Stromboli Island craters at night to see it spew fire and magma. While the volcano is dangerous, it’s also regular and predictable enough that hikers can scramble to the 3,034-foot summit and peer into three active craters. The lava bomb eruptions at the top are believed to have been going off every 20 minutes or so continuously for the past 2,000 years, with occasional major eruptions (the last in 2007 and a big blast in 2003 closed the peak for two years).
