Hike to Twin Tanks, Joshua Tree National Park, California

There's no official trail to the tanks, but they can be found along a bearing of 245° from the Twin Tanks backcountry board located at the Arch Rock Nature Trail parking area off Pinto Basin Road, near White Tank campground. Look for some white quartz boulders atop a small hill very near to the tanks. These white quartz boulders are about a mile from Twin Tanks backcountry board. The area got its name from two man-made catch basins, or tanks. There are actually a lot of tanks in the area, natural catch basins that will hold rainwater and runoff, sometimes for a long period of time. Backcountry camping is permitted in areas that are: 1 mile (1.6 km) from roads, 500 feet from trails and water sources, not day-use only areas. Before setting out into the backcountry, you must first register at one of the backcountry boards.
