Winona Mill, Joshua Tree National Park, California
View Original Description
Winona Mill is a 10 minute walk from Cottonwood campground in Joshua Tree National Park. The site only has a few ruins left, but it's work the short hike. There are two wells covered by cement slabs, a cyanide-stained waste dump, and numerous foundations levels, marked by low rock walls. The enscription "G. W. H. 10/12/37" can be found. Indicating this was possibly the living quaters of George W. Hulsey, owner of the Mastodon Mine and Winona Mill. By 1963 three acres of the Winona Mill site had been developed with three old shacks, two concrete mine buildings and other mniscellaneous structures. That same year it was all razed and cleaned up.
