Hike the Torrent de Pareis Gorge to Sa Colobra on the island of Mallorca. This is a five mile scramble over boulders along a sometimes dried river bed that takes between four and five hours. There might be sections where swimming through sections after a heavy rainfall.
The hike starts in Escorca, in north west Majorca, and finishes in Sa Calobra on the coast. The route uphill from Sa Calobra to Escorca is actually easier and it is much quicker to see if the riverbed is dry (2 minutes from Sa Calobra).
Experienced and fit hikers with walking boots will enjoy this difficult and sometimes dangerous hike. It's also a good idea to bring along a rope to get through some sections.
The trail is marked by small heaps, and green arrows. On an incline before getting into the gorge though it often happens that hikers lose their orientation because both the heap of stones and arrows between there places on the way growing Dissgras are barely visible. The descent into the gorge is generally on the side of the mountain to the northwest of the slope and claimed to trough of Lluc a time of about 45 minutes.
The best time to go is May to September. In winter the canyon could be dry after 2 weeks without rain.
There is a public bus in Sa Calobra that goes back to Escorca (from April to September, from Monday to Saturday). It leaves Sa Calobra at 3 pm.
Every year there are about 70 incidents in the gorge, from getting lost on crashes to fatal accidents, which often require bailouts of the Mallorcan mountain rescue team.
