Located near the old mining town of Julian, Vulcan Mountain Trail is perfect for sunny winter day, spring or fall hike. The trailhead is located a few miles north of Julian. The trail follows an old road to the summit, however, about a mile up the road, follow a well marked trail which to the right which parallels the road through old oak groves and pines. The summit is closed during the winter, likely to keep people from damaging the area by playing in the snow. Excellent vistas and a pleasant day hike. Park on the main road and walk in to the trail head. No water or facilities. Great easy hike for families. Great place for a picnic with sandwiches from Julian.
