Kayak Manzanita Lake, Lassen Volcanic National Park, California

Kayaking or canoeing Manzanita Lake in Lassen Volcanic National Park, California can be an exciting and rewarding experience. The lake is open for fishing and has rainbow, brown and brook trout. Non-motorized boats must access the lake at the designated boat launch area. Manzanita Lake is a lake located near the park entrance. The area around the lake features the Loomis Museum, a campground, and the Manzanita Lake Naturalist's Services Historic District. Manzanita Lake was formed when Manzanita Creek was dammed 300 years ago by a rock avalanche from the northwest slope of the Chaos Crags, which also resulted in the debris formation known as Chaos Jumbles. Kayak rentals are available at the camper store at Manzanita Lake. Single and double kayaks are offered from 10am to 4pm daily on a first-come, first-served basis. The last rental is at 3pm each day. Rates begin at $15 for 1 hour and $25 for 2 hours. Butte and Juniper Lakes in the park are also accessible for kayaking or canoeing. The following lakes are closed to all vessels.
