Kayak Painted Cave, Santa Cruz Island, California

Painted Cave is the largest sea cave in California and is located near the western end of Santa Cruz Island on the north side. Painted Cave is one of the largest known sea caves in the world – long enough to fit a 60-ft (18 m) boat inside of it! This cave found on Santa Cruz Island at Channel Islands National Park is about a 1/4-mile (0.4 km) long. Painted Cave is home to seabirds, sea lions and harbor seals, and gets its name from the many naturally occurring rock colors, as well as lichens and algae that cover the walls.
