Learn Chinese

Chinese is actually a language family that contains many forms, dialects and derivatives. While Chinese languages are the primary method of communication for about 20% of the Earth’s population, Mandarin Chinese is the form most spoken followed by Wu, Cantonese and Min. Since nearly 1 Billion citizens of the planet use Mandarin Chinese in their daily lives, that form is considered the benchmark and the one most regularly taught. The language evolved from the Sino-Tibetan language as long ago as the 12th century, BCE undergoing various changes and derivatives until a standardized form of Mandarin Chinese was mandated by the People’s Republic of China and the Republic of China in their educational systems during the 20th century CE. Chinese is an official language of the United Nations and with the burgeoning influence of China in the world economy instruction in the Mandarin Chinese language has been gaining in popularity throughout the rest of the world. Learning the Chinese language provides a better understanding and appreciation of a culture that is over 5,000 years old as well as the ability to communicate with Chinese speakers on their level. Check out some books about learning Chinese, seek out a Chinese pen pal, buy a computer software program or just start by watching some Chinese films. Those that have become fluent in the language say it’s not as difficult as it might first appear.
