Learn to Snorkel

Snorkeling is a sport enjoyed all over the planet providing an introduction to a vast underwater world and all its visual riches. Snorkeling is an activity that can be enjoyed by young and old as well as those with physical challenges. Adapting to a mask and snorkel can be a little tricky but perhaps the most important acquired skill is the ability to relax with your face submerged with the riser on the end of the snorkel supplying fresh, clean air. Having a good fitting mask is paramount for successful forays under the water so as to prevent water leaks that cloud the snorkeler’s vision or enter their airway. Fins that fit securely over the snorkeler’s feet will provide an additional method of propulsion and ease of movement but are not mandatory. When first introduced to Snorkeling it is best to spend a few minutes, head above the water, with the mask placed securely over the snorkeler’s face while inhaling and exhaling through the snorkel tube with the mouthpiece properly seated. Once confident about the ability to breathe correctly, the beginning snorkeler can then lay horizontally on top of the water with their face submerged all the while focusing on the newness of the submarine universe. Use of a personal flotation device is appropriate for those beginning snorkelers not confident of their swimming or floating ability. Introductory Snorkel classes are provided by Dive shops, Resorts and Snorkel Tour Operators with most novices gaining confidence in their abilities in a very short period of time. Rental equipment is available virtually everywhere that snorkeling is popular. Once the basics are mastered, beginning snorkelers typically quickly improve their maneuverability, snorkel clearing skills and the ability to dive well below the surface. Snorkel gear is compact, lightweight and relatively inexpensive. The gear packs easily making the purchase of a good fitting mask, snorkel and fins appropriate for those wishing to pursue their newly found passion on subsequent adventures to water oriented locations. Your quest to experience the endless beauty of the underwater world can begin when you Learn to Snorkel. Add this to your list and start enjoying the treasures that await you under the water’s surface.
