Learn to Standup Paddleboard (SUP)

Stand Up Paddleboarding (SUP) is increasing in popularity among water sports and fitness enthusiasts. While learning to ride and maneuver a paddleboard is a great way to improve balance and coordination the fitness aspects of Paddleboarding cannot be ignored. Runners, skiers and mountain climbers have discovered that Paddleboarding can be a worthy cross-training component of their fitness routines. Unlike surfing you don’t need big waves to paddle because with minimal equipment paddlers can practice just about anywhere there is water. Paddleboarding is a sport that can be pursued by persons of all ages and physical abilities. Finding the right gear is important just as with any sport. A board that is appropriate for the beginner’s size and budget is the most critical component. A wider, flatter board is thought to provide more stability for the novice combined with a paddle that is 8 to 10 inches longer than the paddler’s height. Learning to paddle in flat water with little or no wind allows the beginning paddler to understand the basics of balancing on the board before moving on to more challenging conditions that include riding waves of varying heights. Many Paddleboarders have learned the basics from friends that are passionate about the sport. Paddleboarding lessons are available at many water oriented resorts with board rentals typically part of the options available from outfitters. Once novice paddlers have had some basic instruction they can hone their skills on the rental gear before deciding about the potential purchase of their own board and paddle. Stand Up Paddleboard Clubs in many locations provide additional instruction and guidance for those just learning to love the sport. Your desire to find a new sport that combines your love of the water with recreation and fitness may be fulfilled by adding the dream to Learn to Standup Paddleboard to your list. Combine this with a trip of a lifetime to a resort that offers lessons or grab a friend that is already an enthusiast and ask them to introduce you to the this fast growing sport.
