Forest Road 525, Sedona, Arizona
View Original Description
Forest Road 525C is part of the scenic loop that runs north of Arizona Route 89A.
In 2020 locals raise alarm on overcamping along 525. Coconino National Forest has changed dispersed camping in the Sedona and Flagstaff Arizona areas for 2022. Campers and recreationists visiting Coconino National Forest in the area of Forest Road 525 will be able to use and camp in eight designated dispersed camping areas. These designated dispersed camping areas provide eight main areas for dispersed camping that accommodate up to an estimated 200 campsites in total. This system will protect natural resources, keeps the landscape being dotted by the creation of dispersed campsites, and still provides many places for visitors to camp and enjoy the beauty of west Sedona.
These first-come, first-served campsite areas will be accessed via state Route 89A, with five of those areas located along the popular access Forest Road 525, while two others are located along FR 89B, and the final area on FR 9570A. Four day-use parking areas and four information sites along these forest roads will also be designated.
Along FR525, there are 5 designated camping areas:
Surprise (3.72 acres)
Windmill (1.41 acres)
Cockscomb (3.23 acres)
Greasy Spoon (2.47 acres)
Nolan (11.85 acres)
Across from FR525 is FR89B, which has 2 designated camping areas:
Javelina (1.24 acres)
Angel Valley (1.14 acres)
A short distance down Highway 89A from FR 525 is FR9570A, which includes 1 designated camping area:
