Off-road Jail Canyon to Corona Mine, Panamint Valley, California

The Jail Canyon trailhead starts at the graded Indian Ranch Road, 7.8 miles north of Ballarat ghost town in Panamint Valley. In two miles, the rough and rocky trail enters Death Valley National Park and continues up the alluvial fan toward the Panamint Range. There is some old mining equipment along the way. At three miles, the trail drops down into the canyon before beginning the climb up the mountains. Most of the trail is pretty easy but there are a few climb in and out of the wash and negotiate some rocks. Further up the trail becomes a river of white rock flowing down the canyon. The rocks are not large, but are loose and constantly shift. Corona Mining Camp is at the end of the trail and has a nice rusted yellow truck and other mining equipment ruins.
