Off-road RockHouse Canyon Trail North (Clark Dry Lake), Anza-Borrego Desert State Park, California

Rockhouse Canyon, also known as Rockhouse Valley, is a broad, sloping alluvial basin drained at the northern portion of Anza-Borrego Desert State Park, California. The lake bed itself is protected and open to foot travel only. Clark Dry Lake was used as a bombing range during World War II. There are petroglyph site lies at the base of the Santa Rosa Mountains, just east of the mouth of Rockhouse Canyon. The petroglyphs, which are interpreted as a early Cahuilla type, are pecked into the reddishbrown patina of the boulders, which spread out for 100 feet along a trail. To get to Rockhouse Canyon Trail take S-22 east from Borrego Springs. When you reach mile 26.7, just past the Pegleg Monument, turn north on Clark’s Well Road.
