This one of several photographic targets which can be seen using public roads/tracks on the outside of the base. It is officially part of the AFFTC museum.
This 1950s McDonnell F-101A Voodoo is a long-range fighter sitting out in the middle of the desert. The McDonnell F-101A Voodoo fighter, a model that made its first flight in 1954 and was withdrawn from service in the United States Air Force in 1972. The The aircraft in the video is 53-2422, the fifth F-101 to come off the production line. I
It was placed in the Precision Impact Range Area (PIRA), in the middle of the Mojave Desert at the wouth end of Edwards AFB (and Rogers Dry Lake). It to be used as a target for radar calibration.
