Participate in a Relay for Life

Relay For Life is the primary volunteer-driven cancer fundraising event of the American Cancer Society. Beginning in the USA in 1986, the Relay For Life events have spread to many other locations around the world raising badly needed funds for Cancer research in concert with domestic cancer organizations in 23 other countries, including Australia, Canada, Japan, United Kingdom, Germany and South Africa. Relay for Life events are the largest source of fundraising for cancer research in the world. Relay events are held in local communities, at universities, on military bases and in cyberspace. The events help to create cancer awareness, celebrate the lives of survivors, remember those who lost their lives to cancer and unite communities in the fight against cancer. It is estimated that Relay For Life events have raised over $3 Billion(US) to date. Relay For Life events are held over a 12 to 24 hour period (almost always overnight) where teams of volunteers alternate in laps around a track of a local sports stadium. At various times during the event special memorials are held for Cancer Survivors (where those survivors in attendance take their own lap), Care Givers and for those Friends and Family members that have lost their battle to the dreaded disease. Multiple teams engage in friendly competition to achieve fund-raising goals at each event. Your desire to get involved in the worthwhile cause to help eradicate cancer may be satisfied by adding the dream to Participate in a Relay for Life event to your list.
