Birch Aquarium in La Jolla offer private tours of the Scripps Institution of Oceanography Pier. This working research 1,090 feet pier called the Ellen Browning Scripps Memorial Pier is usually closed to the public. The tours give attendees access to the pier and a chance to take a deep dive into the aquarium staff’s bottomless reservoir of knowledge and enthusiasm.
The walks are usually held twice a month from June through October. All walks run from 6 to 8 p.m. Tickets are $22 for aquarium members and $25 for the public, and they must be purchased in advance from the Birch Aquarium website, or by calling (858) 534-7336.
