Raft or Kayak Zambezi River, Zimbabwe & Zambia

White water rafting on the mighty Zambezi in the shadow of Victoria Falls, one of the Seven Wonders of the World has been described as “The Wildest One Day Ride on Earth”. The full one-day course through 23 named rapids (among them “Stairway to Heaven”, “Devils Toilet Bowl”, “Commercial Suicide”, “The Washing Machine”) can only be run during periods of “low water” – usually from the first of August to mid-January. Many of the rapids are considered to be Class 5. The rest of the year, considered the “high water” period, provides opportunities to cover about half the course in a single day. Other options are available to extend the trip to as long as six days on the river covering different portions and alternative experiences such as observing hippopotamus in gentle channels. Guided trips down the awesome Zambezi River may be taken in either an Oar Boat, controlled and maneuvered by the guide or in a Paddle Boat, which requires active participation by the passengers. When the undivided attention of the rafters isn’t focused on battling the white water, the scenery and exotic wildlife such as baboons, elephants, lionesses, leopards, zebra and crocodiles enthralls those on the river. All the while, African Fish Eagles, Hornbill and other raptors soar overhead. Steep black walls stretching over 100 meters, the iconic Victoria Falls, dense rainforests, waves and whirlpools all contribute to what is an experience of a lifetime. Entry to rapid #1, “Boiling Point” is reached from the Zambian side of the river. The town of Livingstone provides the best access and tour operators await your inquiry to provide all the details of how to make Rafting on the Zambezi River a dream come true. Add it to your list today and start exploring all that this incredible region of the world has to offer.
