Relax on Coronado Beach, California

Coronado Beach is consistently ranked among the top 10 beaches in the United States by a number of well-known publications. Located on Coronado Island in the shadow the famous Hotel del Coronado, the beach offers tame surf for beginning boogie boarders or surfers, a large, gently sloping sandy beach, ever present lifeguards, showers and ample restrooms making it a perfect spot for the entire family. The mile-and-a-half stretch of golden sand that sparkles in sunlight due to small pieces of mica. The beach affords a lovely overview of the entrance to San Diego Harbor and allows for the observation of pleasure craft, cruise ships, working boats and military vessels as they enter and exit the harbor. What remains of the hull of a sunken gambling ship rests just offshore the southern section of the 2 mile long beachfront begging exploration during low tide. Portions of the beach sport fire-rings for those chilly evenings after the sun sets, volleyball facilities and a dog friendly section where canines can roam and play with other dogs sans leash. Facilities for dining and lodging are abundant in the immediate area. Be aware of Stingrays - espcially in the summer. When entering water shuffle your feet in the sand to lura them away.
