Visit White Bay (Jost Van Dyke), BVIs

White Bay is the western most anchorage on the south shore of Jost Van Dyke Island in the British Virgin Islands (BVI) was selected as one of world’s top ten best beaches. The beach has turquoise waters and the sand is soft and white. 10 day/overnight moorings are available but it's popular so get there early. It's a great day anchorage and an acceptable overnight anchorage in milder conditions. Pay for moorings at Ivan's Bar (for eastern set) or the Soggy Dollar (the western set). The has great bars, restaurants and hotels. On the western end of of the bay is the world famous Soggy Dollar beach bar. The Soggy Dollar is reputedly the birthplace of the popular drink known as the Painkiller. The Soggy Dollar bar is appropriately named because when built there was neither road nor dock. (There is now a road from Great Harbour, but still no dock). To reach the beach where the bar is located, it is a common practice for boaters to anchor off the beach, swim to shore, and pay for their drinks with wet money. The Sea and Land Adventure Centre is the place to go for kayaks and other water toys, bikes and ATVs.
