The Royal Scotsman, a train cobbled together with delicately restored vintage Pullman cars, spends 6 months each year within the rugged, breathtakingly beautiful terrain that is Scotland, ferrying discriminating passengers on 2 to 7 day rail based journeys through one of Europe’s most romantic landscapes. These painstakingly restored coaches adorned with Scottish upholstery, carpets and regal accessories hearkens a reminder of more gentile times and attracts guests that enjoy dressing in their sparkling diamonds and haute couture as a backdrop to formal dining experiences while aboard. Only 36 guests are able to be accommodated on any individual trip.
The train makes regular stops, sometimes 2 per day, to allow riders to mix with the robust personalities of the townspeople, absorb local culture and experience the lifestyle of some of Scotland’s lesser known regions. In between the decadent three meals per day that are provided aboard, the activities offered at stops on the various trips include distillery tours, fly fishing, wildlife cruises, visits to ancient castles and farms and clay pigeon shooting. Edinburgh serves as the beginning and ending location for all trips on the Royal Scotsman. In addition to the 4 night “Classic Tour” that covers nearly 1,200 kilometers of the United Kingdom’s greatest scenery, the various options for routings include journeys through the Scottish Highlands, one that focuses on the Scotland’s finest residential areas, another that provides a grand tour of the unforgettable landscape of West Scotland and a 7 night extravaganza that takes in a great deal of England referred to as the “Grand Tour of Great Britain”.
