Rock Climb
Bath Rock, City of Rocks National Reserve, Idaho
View Original Description
Bath Rockis an excellent area for beginners and even non-climbers due to the rangers for allowing rebar steps to be added to the west side.
Difficulties range from 5.4 to 5.12+.
Snow and rainwater fill a large depression or panhole on top of Bath Rock, giving rise to the name. Many visitors climb the relatively easy southwest face for a magnificent view of City of Rocks.
Starting from the parking lot, this short trail loops around the looming granite formation of Bath Rock. The rock is named for large natural pools of water atop this 240-foot tall monolith. Adventurous visitors can climb up the back side of Bath Rock where handles are affixed along the steepest section of the climb. Legend has it that a bath in the “tub” at the top of the rock before sunrise will restore youth to the old. This dirt trail has a gentle grade with sections of stairs. It is 3-4 feet wide, but becomes narrower in some areas. In 1939 and 1940 the Bathtub Rock Bathing Beauty Parade was held here.
