Run a 5K Race

A 5K run covers 5,000 meters and is considered an entry level competition for novice runners. However, the 5K race is also an Olympic Games event and attracts some of the world’s elite runners at a pace that can only be thought of as a sprint. Perhaps you have considered getting into a running program or you have been running for some time but need the motivation of preparing for a competition to evaluate your skills compared to your peers. Consider competing in a 5K run as the impetus to move to your next level of fitness. 5K runs are staged all over the world but while the competition divisions are certainly hotly contested the races in general are referred to as “Fun Runs” because that is just what they are. Potential participants with no previous running experience can be ready for a 5K run in as little as a couple of weeks by following a prescribed training program that moves from walking to run-walks and then increases the distances so that runners can be ready for the race they have targeted. Most races assign keepsake “bibs” with the participant’s unique number. Most races also include the option of purchasing a commemorative Tshirt. Many of the races are held in conjunction with other local celebrations and events. Once you have participated in a 5K run chances are you will be seeking additional opportunities to build your Tshirt collection from races run in locations that are already on your list. Add the dream to Run a 5K to your list and start training for the races that match your other list entries.
